It’s solid and real wood. I love the storage inside. It took some measuring and searching, but I found some containers that fit along the back to hold her markers and crayons. Perfect size for my 5 year old. I first looked at some desks that had drawers, but they were all much larger. It is cheaply made and definitely not built to last. Great quality and easy to assemble. The latch is slow moving so no issue re closing abruptly on fingers. All but one of the pre-drilled holes is too large of a diameter - leaving the screws to just fall out time after time. Fairly easy to put together, and like all M and D items, they make great quality products. We got a few pencil marks already. Since Quarantine started and dreadful homeschooling i wanted a small writing area for my son in our downstairs area where he could work on school work close by me while I am doing other household duties. I would look elsewhere if you need a child's desk that you plan on actually using. I would look elsewhere if you need a child's desk that you plan on actually using. But I was very disappointed.
